ボツワナのバスケットはモコルネワ椰子という天然素材だけで丁寧に編まれた、アフリカを代表するバスケットです。
作るのは主にボツワナ北西部に住むバエイ族やハンブクシュ族の女性たちで、伝統的なデザインや繊細な技法は世代を超えて受け継がれて来たものです。
バスケットの文様にはそれぞれに意味があり、伝統的な生活の中の出来事や、自然との関わりなどが表現されているようです。例えばまだら模様は「ニシキヘビの背」などを表現しているそうです。
果物や野菜入れとしてもお使いいただけますが、壁にかければインテリアのアイテムとしてお楽しみいただけると思います。

Botswana baskets are one of Africa's most iconic baskets, carefully woven exclusively from the Mokornewa palm tree, a natural material.
The baskets are made mainly by women of the Baiey and Hambukushu tribes of northwest Botswana.
Each of the baskets has its own meaning, expressing an event in their traditional lives and their relationship with nature. For example, the speckled pattern represents the back of a python.
You can use it as a fruit and vegetable container, or you can hang it on the wall to enjoy it as an interior item.
